🌳 Material: Earth’s Sanctified Gift
The wood is made of centuries-old European beech wood, the grain of which spreads out like the pages of a book of Psalms, with each wheel of the year recording the wind, rain and sunshine in the cycle of the four seasons. The craftsmen moisten the wood with olive oil for seven days to symbolize the nourishment and sanctification of faith. The natural knots are carefully polished into the shape of a star, symbolizing the starry sky that the disciples looked up to on the night of Jesus' ascension.
✝️ Core Design: The Breath of Eternity
In the center of the crucifix, the ascended body of Jesus shows a subtle movement: the folds of the robe, as if blown by the Holy Spirit, seem to be about to completely detach from the wood in the next second. The expression on his face is somewhere between suffering and joy, the lowered eyes seem to be blessing the earthly world, and the slightly opened lips seem to be promising “and I am with you always”. The craftsmen have deliberately preserved the natural knotholes in the wood, forming a depression similar to a nail mark on the foot of Jesus, so that the viewer can feel the sacred wounds that have traveled through time and space when he touches it.
🌟 Divine Symbols: Silent Theological Dialogues
The inscription at the top, “ΙΗΣΟΥΣ ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ ΝΙΚΑ,” is inscribed in a shaded technique, so that when the light comes in at a specific angle, the letters emerge as the fish symbols that the early Christians carved in the catacombs. Surrounding the sides are twelve doves of peace in relief, the number of feathers in each wing corresponding to the initials of the twelve apostles. At the base of the cross, a relief of grapevines oozes natural resin, the aroma of which echoes the wine served during the Eucharist.
🏡🛕🏥 Sizes: Daily Encounters with Ascension
-
40”: Hanging in the public prayer room of the nursing home, when the demented old man trembled and touched the “nail marks” on Jesus' feet, he suddenly recited the long-forgotten Lord's Prayer with clarity. The caregivers found that whenever the setting sun passed over the cross, it would form a spreading shadow of light on the ground, covering the wheelchair-bound old man like a heavenly embrace.
-
50”: Standing under the dome of the seminary's library, the shadows of the folds of Jesus' garments would naturally form the Greek letters “ΠΑΥΣΩ” (rest) as students fretted over their papers. On a stormy night, lightning strikes the top of the cross, but a rainbow halo forms on the ground, and all present hear the heavenly voice of Isaiah 40:31: “He who waits for the LORD will renew his strength.
-
60”: In the atrium of the Children's Hospital, children with leukemia see the cloud relief of the cross as the entrance to the sky. One morning, when the sunlight penetrated the cloud relief and projected the shape of a heavenly staircase on the ground, the children were surprised to find their names inscribed on each step, as if to say: “Your names are in the Book of Life.
📜 The Eternal Promise
As Jesus promised before His ascension, “I am going to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Me; and where I am, there you will be also.” (John 14:3) This cross is not only a testimony of faith, but also a foretaste of the Kingdom of Heaven, reminding every believer that our temporary home on earth will be the beginning of our eternal home.
